The Cort Group is committed to community, because “the foundation of a great community is a neighborhood where you’d want to live, work, play,” says Zachary Cort, President and CEO of TCG. “There is nothing more gratifying than transforming a building into a place people want to be.”

Buildings are meant to be used, and in Stockton, California, The Cort Group’s commitment to urban renewal has led to revitalization in the downtown corridor. TCG’s projects -- primarily renovated historic buildings -- are now host to many businesses, bringing pedestrian traffic, a demand for services and entertainment, and more income to the downtown area.

“There’s a myth that downtown is dangerous,” says Cort. “Downtowns across the US are safer than they were a decade ago, and we know that once businesses and residents move into a downtown, it improves community safety, drops crime rates, increases property values and transforms neighborhoods.”

With a goal of making downtown “the place to be,” TCG is partnering with local community groups, the Downtown Stockton Alliance and other passionate Stockton organizations and individuals.
